My 98 S70 non-turbo has been giving me a problem for about a year now, I just haven't looked into it until now.
I only notice the problem during the winter. The passenger side dash vents will not give out any heat. The driver's side seems just fine. The only way to get heat through those vents is by pressing the recirc. button, but that's only because it's pushing around the heat generated from the driver side. Sometimes it seems if I fiddle with the climate control knobs, both sides, I can get some heat out, but I can't seem to repeat it later. I found only one comment from another topic that seems to apply - could it be a damaged damper that's causing this? I've never pulled apart my dash, so I'm not familiar with any of it.
If anyone's got some insight into this, please let me know! The winter here in Pennsylvania is getting colder and colder...
Thanks!
Matt

You have either a bad heat damper motor or the heat damper flap itself has a split shaft. The only way to tell is to remove the motor and inspect things. The heater damper motor can be accessed by removing the lower dash panel on the passenger's side and then pulling back the carpet around the center console. There is also a stiffener panel behind the carpet that will need to be pulled back.
