Knocking noise from the front left?

Post by chris71 »

Hi,

I have V70 (2000) and it has developed a knocking noise that comes from the front left. It is fine on a flat road but anything a little bumpy and it knocks. I have taken it into a garage and they checked the suspension/shocks etc and all was okay apart from a top rubber mount and two other smaller ones that wear worn. These where replaced but although it is better the knocking is still there and they do not seem to know what is the cause. I have also now noticed a slight wurring noise when cornering.

Any help or advice as to what could be causing the knocking is most appreciated.

On my 97 one of the hood latches had a problem and it caused a rattle in the front corner. The latch was replaced under warranty and the noise went away.

Just a suggestion.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion will take a look and see if that could be it. Its become that annoying I'll try anything. Seems to be more from the area of the front wheel though as the knocking sounds as if its under your feet in the foot well, but you just never know.

Hi vicney, is that the rubber part at the top? If so had that replaced as it was broken but didnt make any difference to the knocking.

it is not the rubber that you see on the engine compatment....the rubber that make the noise is below the strut tower. youy must remove the strut/spring completely to see the "spring seat" that needs to be replaced.
