V70R mileage question, V70R owners please read

Post by Guest »

I'm planning on getting a sport wagon for my wife. Our mileage benchmark is my M5, IE: The new wagon must get better highway mileage, the more, the better. Having said that, I also must point out that we (I) want a fast wagon.

We're considering a 540iT, but it's mileage is only marginally better than my M5. The V70R is a great car, and it's EPA highway is 25 - as opposed to the 540iT's 21. HOWEVER, we all know that in real driving the EPA number is rarely correct. The concensus among 540 owners I've talked to is 22-26, depending on driving style. So my question to this forum is, how many of you have a V70R and what kind of mileage do you get on the highway?

Thanks in advance.

My observation is
XC70 (2001)

25.5mpg strictly highway driving at 65mph

22.3 combined (which in my case is really about a 70/30 split between highway and city)

terrain is mostly rolling hills.
