What is this?
I need to ID the hose that's next to the oil cap on the 2.5T engine. I guess it dry-rotted and broke off under the engine cover. It had a pasty yellow liquid inside the hose....anyone have any ideas as to what hose it is and whether or not its easy to replace for an amateur mechanic at best? Thanks.

I attached your picture to your post.
That hose is part of the PCV system down to the oil separator box. The intake manifold will need to be removed to replace it, and if you're going to be doing that, you may as well replace the whole system - it is at least a 5-6 hr job on one of the older 5-cyl models.
