Hello everybody - first post here, but have been an avid reader for a long time - best volvo forum I've found!
I have just bought a v70 2.5tdi diesel year 1999, and I am finding that the engine sometimes cranks, idles for about 2 seconds, and then cuts out. If I try again, it cranks but won't fire. Strangely enough, if I fiddle around with the position of the round light switch it will crank and fire, sometimes for the 2 seconds and sometimes stays started. It always starts in the end. Have tried all the keys, no difference. Is this the antenna ring or some other issue? I don't know if it's relevant but the engine management light stays on but all the others go out as per normal. I am going to read the codes soon.
Also, I have too many keys - 2 that start the car, 1 that unlocks the door and one that does the glovebox! What would be the most economical way to get 1 key that works on all the locks? I have some bills with the car that state the ignition lock was replaced about a year ago, but I would have thought that volvo would supply the same key as the original. Is there a way to tell which keys are the masters and which ones are the service ones?
Apart from that I am loving the 35mpg+, and the car is much nicer than the previous one.
Any advice or tips gratefully received, and I wish you all a merry Xmas/Holiday!
Thanks for your time and the great site.
john

Had this happen recently on my 2000 V70.
I'm quite sure it's a faulty immobilizer antenna. Once you get the codes, 1670 is a faulty immobilizer antenna.
Check out this: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthrea ... ht=antenna
I believe (double check) it's this part number for your vehicle: 9442961. I think this link will give you more idea about how to get it:
http://www.swedishautoparts.com/V70/vol ... parts.html
Or get it wherever you want.
Or you could try cleaning the contacts of the green plug connector from which the antenna gets it's power. Putting some contact grease on the connectors may help, but it's not a fix. It may run for a while, but the antenna does need replacing. (At least it sounds like it does)
If it is this, it is a very simple 5 minute fix, once you have the part.
Good luck.
