95 850 GLT Driver Seat Back Question

Post by Arlian »

I originally thought I had a problem with the seat back cable, but I tried the seat back switch the other night and noticed that it will recline, but it will not go back forward unless I keep actuating the switch several times as it 'inches' it's way back forward. If I repeat the recline motion, it works perfectly, but then the same on the way back up. Any suggestions? It almost seems like a limit setting or something. Thanks for any help.

It doesn't sound like there's a hit/miss (such as would be found with intermittent teeth missing) action taking place or grinding. It appears rather smooth on the recline. If this isn't something anyone's encountered before, I may just have to tear into it and replace the cable (and whatever else I find wrong causing the problem). Note: The auto seat position (1 or 2) does work, including the seat back.

Just came across this thread and wanted to weigh in that I am having the same issue with the drivers seat of my '95 850 Wagon...except that it won't come forward at all now. For a while I was able to apply forward pressure to the seat while activating the switch and it would inch back towards upright, but not anymore. The motor definitely engages, but the seat doesn't so much as twitch in response. Every other seat adjustment works fine every time...and smoothly.

I pulled the drivers seat out today but was unable to determine anything (was able to vacuum up all the little pieces of popcorn and such!) - I was running out of daylight when I realized that the appropriate mechanism seems to be in the mid back area of the seat and it looks like you'd have to seperate the back from the seat and then remove the upholstered cover to even get a look at anything.

Any further thoughts would be greatly appreciated - I am willing to do all of the above if it will give me access to something fixable! Or, I could take it to my mechanic, but that's no fun.

sorry that last message posted twice...

just wanted to add that, if I were you, I would get the seat upright into a comfy position and quit messing around with it, because when it stops working altogether you will have to live with it...

speaking from experience,
and driving around with lots of pillows,

I have pretty much resigned myself to leaving it as is. I have noticed that when my wife drives it and presses the #1 memory button, the seat adjusts normally and the same for me when I press number #2. I think I am just not used to the forward limit being where it is. I'm leaving it be for now. It's not at all uncomfortable. Thanks for the reply.

okay, I'm having the same problem, but what I want to know is whether or not there is a hand-crank of some sort to fix this issue? If I can get it into my position, I won't move it again.

anyone know? thanks!
