Camshaft Position Sensor Terminal Wire Colors

I sure hope a mechanic is out there reading over new postings for 1996 960 model help. Fault code is CMP sensor. My issue is cant test the terminal connectors because some mechanic or owner removed wires from sensor connector and spliced the wires together. Car is hard to start and bucks at interstate speeds. My issue right now is testing the circuit. need 3 wire colors
One is ground, one is "signal return should test at 5 volts, 3rd wire should test at battery voltage. and I sure don't want to mess up I am using Chilton repair manual as mentioned some took connector off and spliced wires directly behind the engine

Attached is wiring diagram for the fuel/ignition system. The camshaft position sensor is 7/21.
