LED screen below the petrol gauge not functioning

I have a 2000 S40 (W), there is a little LED screen below the petrol and temperature gauge, is it supposed to work? and if so how do I sort it out because it isn't working

That is the trip computer/ambient temperature screen. The trip computer was an option and may not have been fitted to your car. If you do have the trip computer you will have a switch like this on the dash and instructions in the owner's manual:

You would need all of the sensors, switch, wiring and a software download from a dealer. Very expensive.

I have a trip computer in my 850 and rarely use it. I can work out mpg in my head and the other functions seem to be a complete waste of time.
