Front passenger door does not open from inside

My front passenger door does not open from inside. I have removed the door trim and checked whether the lever is connected to the lock itself. It is and visually I can not see anything strange or loose. The lock actuators work perfectly on all doors but the door only opens from the outside. Anyone has run into this? Anyone know the fix? I tryed to remove the lock mechanism but the screws are so tight that they started stripping, so I stopped.

you should be able to push the rod from the lever you use to push the door open close to the mechanism. If it is moving properly you will find you will be able to open it. If it is not then it has come unclipped to the door mechanism. There is usually a clip which keeps it in place.

If it is still clipped then your door mechanism is defective.

I had the same problem, but the rod or some plastic piece broke on my 97 850 Sedan. I fixed it yesterday using a nylon tie. You have to pull out the black plastic cover that is over lock mechanism on inside. You will see 2 parts with holes that line up when you look straight on, ( the first hole had a piece of broken plastic which I popped out) . Next, you need a flashlight to see inside of door towards end of door opening. There was part of a plastic piece that was broken and I popped out with a screwdriver revealing a small hole. Take the tie and curl the tip so you can feed it through the hole using some needlenose pliers, then pull tie and feed through the two holes that are side by side. Adjust tie a little at a time ,as not to make it too tight as you pull back door lever until it moves freely. Hope this helps you. No more climbing over the console for me ! My next project is to replace the master window switch..... this girl is workin' it !

Thanks SBJ. I will follow your directions next saturday. I have owned this car since new and this is the first fix I chickened out from. I really thought I would have to get the lock mechanism out, and a new one is expensive as hell.

Had the same problem on my sons 1998 v70. It was the interior door handle mechanism. There was a cable that pulls when you pull the interior handle lever , and where the end of the cable attaches to the lever inside the door is where mine was broken.

I had a similar problem with my 97 850 - I took the door apart, checked all the mechanisms and eventually found a piece of Lego stuck behind the lever! The fix was simple, I then thanked the kids - the irony of the problem was not lost on any of us. I wish all my Volvo fixes were this easy!
