Did you have key on enough that radio played any time the air bag connectors were loose?
The SRS is active if radio will play (key pos I).
You will have to have someone with diagnostic tool for that car that can do all systems. There is no non scanner way to clear SRS codes on that car.

So, Jimmy57, are you saying that I have to take car to a shop, or to the dealer to have it reset, or would I have to buy a diagnostic tool to try and reset SRS light.....and I wonder why it came on in the first place,....????....greg.

There can be two reasons the SRS light came on, either you didn't disconnect the battery before you disconnected the SRS connectors or there is an SRS plug that isn't plugged back in. Assure that the steering wheel airbag and the dash air bag are plugged in and then you will need to get the light reset.

...and dealer only for reset, an OBD reader cannot clear it

Did you have steering wheel off? Did you disconnect the connectors for the turn signal switch and other things on top of steering column?
The RH airbag has a connection directly on the bag and another a few inches away from bag. Which did you disconnect?
There are airbag connectors below each front seat. Did you have anything apart for any reason?
OBD-II scanners that are so plentiful read only engine management and some transmission info.
VIDA or older VADIS tools from Volvo will of course read and clear whole car but there are other tools out there that do it too. Autodiagnos is one of those that some Indy shops use.

I took the steering wheel off, and I now cannot remember where the screw holding orange strap screwed into.....I noticed there was a screw hole in plastic part of wheel and another by base of steering wheel past 18mm nut....I did not mess with seats....I did disconnect battery before removing wheel.....greg.

the hole for screw was metal on the second part and when I screwed screw in it hampered the turning of wheel.....sort of like a stop or something.....I just wished the manual had more to offer.....greg.

I don't know if you used this but it is quite precise on doing an evaporator change on an 850 series car. I don't know how different things are on your '99 since I have never touched one.

I'm sure many things are identical.

Please post any further questions and responses in the appropriate forum (1992-2000). The general discussions forum is not for specific problems. I have moved you last posts to that forum where they will get the appropriate attention but after about 2 weeks they will be deleted from the general discussion forum.
