It has about 140,000 miles on it. Do not have much in the way of any service records. Dealer wants about $5000.
Looks like there are potential tranny issues with this car. Anything else I shoud be looking for?
Looking at at 2001 V70 XC

DON'T BUY AN 01
If you had to ask, you already knew that 01s have AWFUL trannies and should be avoided at all costs

I think that at 140,000 miles any possible tranny issue would have reared its head. If it is at a dealer insist that they update the transmission software to the latest version and perform a flush. There is an easy test for stop neutral (the cause of the tranny issues). If once the car is warmed up you can feel it shift into drive from park and if you cannot feel it shift hard into first from a dead stop under moderate acceleration then stop neutral has been removed. Now all you have to worry about is that there is clean oil in the tranny.
Also there was a recall issued about the fuel pump/sender unit in the tank. Make sure that it has been taken care of, the dealer will perform the work for free.
Other than that 5,000 for a 2001 in good shape is a great deal. Of course since the car is used you are going to have to do some amount of maintenance on it.
BTW I drive a 2001 V70 XC and it has given me little problems so far.

No it's not, for a private party sale
140K means nothing.
I've seen original trannies take a crap right about at those miles
On www.V70XC.com there is a 2001 right now with 140K miles who's owner is trying to figure out what to do, the tranny expired "Just like that"

As a former '01 V70 owner, my recommendation is do NOT buy this vehicle. It was a constant maintenance nightmare...I learned a lot about Volvos, but it will cost you quite a bit.

I currently own a 2001 V70 with 120,000 miles on it, and haven't had any problems in the 2 years I've owned it. I bought it used, and the first thing I did was flush the tranny. It's a base model, so it doesn't have the manual shift option. I've heard that its the turbo and AWD models that have issues with the tranny. I owned a 2002 V70 AWD and reverse was intermittent, with hard shifting in forward gears.

"crossing my fingers" - made the purchase, wife really likes it. I am making an immediate appointment at the Volvo dealership to have to fluid changed and software updated. Unfortuneately I do not have a service history. Rides and shifts smooth, so we'll see.

While they are in there have them replace the B4 servo cover.

If it shifts fine it's not necessary.RaymanSean wrote:While they are in there have them replace the B4 servo cover.
To the OP. You asked an opinion here, why did you bother?
You ignored what everyone said!!!
Good luck, I hope it proves to be one of the 10-15% of the 2001's without major issues, I mean it
However if what we said rears it's ugly head, don't say we didn't warn you
