2001 S80 front windows

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

both front windows bind when trying to go down. they do not go down, using either door switch, although the passenger window did go down a while back when the car was being backed out the driveway. any ideas anyone???

The first effort would be to spray silicone spray down the ruuber strips at front and rear the glass at door. THose strips are the channels the glass slides up and down in.
The next step is to remove door panel and inspect for the regulator lift arm popped out of glass bottom bracket or for the arm being bent.
If it is bent then the window regulator may have broken a rivet that holds it to door.

Thanks jimmy57. Might try that, but didn't think that would be the issue since both front windows only go down 1-2 inches, no matter which switch is used

OK, the front windows do have position tracking and I suppose if that got goofed up then it would stop in wrong place. If that is the case then the motor will stop instantly and there will be no sense that the motor is grunting and still trying.
TO reset the position tracking roll the windows up and at each front door using that window switch, hold the switch in the up position for over 5 seconds. you usually see and hear the window move a tic.
Then release window switch and then try the operation and see if it is fixed.

Thank you for the additional reply! will try that when I get home later, after I put the battery charger on it, since my wife told me the car seems like it is not going to start. hook up a charger about every 2 months, then is fine for another couple months, until another over nite charge. my 2nd Volvo. Don't think I'll have another. Solid as can be, but really quirky cars. had a 99 s70 b4 this one thanks again
