high pressure cooling system

Post by betico »

My car a Volvo S40 turbo 1.9cc year 2002.
Repair previously the cylinder head 6 month aprox.
My car cooling system builds more pressure than usual, I have to keep the cap is not completely closed because too much pressure builds up in the hoses. My cap is green color and new.
Now the car runs great and the temperature is normal.
I thought about changing the deposit or coolant and high or low pressure cap?
I need help, please!!

Sounds like a possible bad head gasket.
How do you know you have too much pressure in your hoses????

Test the cap and measure the pressure while running.
You may wish to do a combustion gas test as well.
Let us know what you measured and how you measured it.

The hose coming from the engine to the radiator is inflated too much like wanting to explode.
The vehicle does not combine the oil and coolant as before.
the vehicle does not consume oil and woking are normal temp.
I change the cylinder head (used AND rectified) and seals, cylinder gasket (news) six months ago.
I will test the combustion and tap (is new).
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok - I think

Do a combustion gas test and let us know the results. sounds like the head gasket failed.

Is your only indicator a ballooning hose? Are the hoses old?

Yup - that's where I was going also Ed. He states the pressure it too high but we don't know the pressure.

My bet is the oil and antifreeze mixture ruined the hose and it was not replaced. Right now I am trying to understand things like "tap is new" -I wonder what that means ( tap water, antifreeze mix, thermostat cover)?????

the pressure is so high that I already broke the radiator and replace new one, what I do is let the pressure release tank cap expansion. Then I bought a new radiator I'm afraid to break it again so do not completely close the cap.
the mechanic before changing the cylinder head was revised engine block to see who did not have cracks.
my car has 84000 kms I have used this problem as 2000kms but always with fear, he bought the best coolant
I was looking for a new cap that could release more pressure than the original when I found this wonderful forum
hoses I have not changed are old. I advised to change?
also has new thermostat, which is better than 87 or 92 degrees?

I can feel with the hand that circulates coolant through the radiator hose comes from the engine

Wonder if he changed the thermostat while doing the head gasket change and/or IF he's got one of the correct heat range in it. Worth a try I would think; AND YES do change the hose if it's bulging.
