P0410 Code
I've read up on the issues associated with this code. I pulled the pump and it runs fine when hooked up to 12volts, even opened it up and it looks great! I could not see where there is a ground that is supposed to be coming from the pump. Bad selenoid maybe? As always, thanks!

My car, 1998 S70GLT, threw this code last night for the first time. (also codes P0133 & P0455 - from before). I changed out the PCV hoses & oil separator last weekend hoping it might help with the other codes.Dave123 wrote:I've read up on the issues associated with this code. What is the pump in question, and where is it?
Thanks
Mike

The relay you mention is for the radiator fan (which has two speeds). The SAS relay is mounted near the pump itself and you access it from under the car. I replaced the relay and it wasn't sealed, so it's possible you can just pop it apart and visually inspect.
Since the SAS is designed to heat-up the catalytic converter faster, it won't affect the drivability of your car nor is it a necessary repair (unless you're a tree hugger!). Instead of repairing it, you may wish to do a search for removing the system completely - if you desire.

I just repaired my air pump check valve/air pump relay for the SAS, I got the same code mentioned on my '96 850GLT. Before scanning for code I had no performance trouble whatsoever...the only symptom that was believed to be PCV system was some white smoke out the tail pipe. The check valve is between the fire wall/block, it's kinda got a mushroom shape to it and it's near the brake fluid res.. I couldn't hear anything coming from the air pump itself, so for now I'm leaving it alone.

Right. The SAS has no affect on performance at all. You can run with a dead SAS and a CEL on your dash and never hurt your engine one bit.shiloh51933 wrote: Before scanning for code I had no performance trouble whatsoever....
The pump should only run a few minutes at a cold start. If you hear it running when you get out of the car, then it's mostly the relay going out on you.I couldn't hear anything coming from the air pump itself, so for now I'm leaving it alone.
I swapped my relay and pump but left the check valve in place and it's still working fine. Of the three components that make up the SAS, the check valve is probably the longest-lasting.

I've heard/been told by many sources that the check valve is commonly the source of the pump failure...I got bigger fish to fry right now with doing the PCV system as soon as a good day presents itself.vjaneczko wrote:Right. Guys I've had my battery, battery tray and pump out but don't see any relay close to the pump. The wires off of my pump run to the connector and then the wires from the female portion of the connector splice into a bunch of other wires and off to god knows where. I thought that I read someplace that the relay was in the main fuse box and was the same as the trans. relay?
