Annoying issues from my '02 C70

Post by izodmartin »

I have a 2002 C70 LT with apx, 152K on it. I bought is with 146K 6 months ago for under 3K and would love to fix the following issues.
Luckily it is my play car so I have time to tinker with it.
1. When I make a left turn under acceleration a loud whirling sound (like the power steering pump is low on fluid but it isn't) is heard and it is loud.
The noise continues even after I complete the turn. The noise will continue getting louder as I accelerate and softer when I decelerate. But it doesn't go completely away until I come to a complete stop then accelerate. Meaning i hear it when the car is at a complete stop.

2. My transmission sometimes slams into gear, that occurs in first or reverse. It also will slip out of gear while driving. I swapped the upper rear engine mount and it made it much better, (not so hard shifting and not as often). I was wondering should I go and replace all engine mounts or just take it to the tranny shop?

3. And this is the most annoying. sometimes my car will crank the die quickly. I will crank it again and it just clicks. Then I take the key out wait about 30secs and without pumping the gas try to start it again and it starts just fine. This happens in the morning or if I make a few short trips. I replaced the battery, and the alternator and starter are newly installed.

I know this is a lot of issues, but the car is paid for and I would love to fix it.
Drive it till the wheels fall off... then put them back on!

Your tranny is on the way out
As for your noise, could be a wheel bearing

Have you checked the the fluid level and condition? Reason I ask is a low fluid level can cause it to jump out of gear or make whining noises. Ie 1 & 2.

#3 "could" be immobilzer related. I was thinking MAF at first, but with the clicking Im changing my mind.

Starting problem: Check voltage drop between battery and block on (-) side while operating starter. Check V between (+) post and the brass stud with a heavy wire on it in the electrical box next to brake master cylinder with EVERYTHING in car turned on.

You can always try the drain and fill routine, (tranny) and add software but at 145k miles you really can't flush it, too many unknowns

Too many miles.
The odds of dislodging crud and having said crud find its way to a bad spot and completely ruin the tranny is high

OMG, fixed issue 1.

It was the power steering. The fluid was low, and thought it looked okay when I checked it. I replaced the hose clamp and refilled it. This problem is history.
