1988 740 247,067 miles

Spotted a 1988 740 (YV1FX8847J1293302) manual. Last inspection 3/10. Am I nuts for even considering this car?
Found some info in the glove box from an owner in Texas. Unsure if it is the current owner. Will contact him to see what he can tell me.

I see some posts of you guys buying volvos with 200k+ so I guess I can't be that nuts.

If any of you guys have any thoughts about this I'd sure appreciate them.

I just bought a 1989 740 wagon with over 270,000 miles on it lol. It runs like a champ and I bought it for cheaper than changing a set of tires:lol: I really anticipate getting at least 2+ years out of her...

I'm having fun learning to fix cars, by working on my 2 Volvos. If the car is mechanically sound and dirt cheap, then why not?

He's looking for $1000 but the car won't start, not sure why, have to wait for a decent day to see if there is fuel and spark.
I'm going to offer $400-$500 if I can get it started.

While old Swedish cars are generally great and run forever, keep in mind that you may unravel a whole rats nest of other problems with a high-mileage, old car.

I owned a 1988 Honda as my first car; it ran well and the body and interior was in great shape for being so old. But it was at the age where everything was still original and began to fail - and just became a huge money pit so I had to cut my losses and pass them on to the next owner.

Man it was fun to drive, though.

I understand totally however, what keeps me wanting to check this car out further is the 100,000 and 200,000 mile METAL emblems that are on the car. Granted they could have been ripped off at a junk yard and re-installed but I have to wonder that someone having gone through the trouble with the embllems may have been pretty meticulous with the maintenance.
So I think I need to check it out alittle further. I'm hoping its mostly new. ya right!
