74 Volvo 144 Wagon wont start

Post by mcole003 »

Where is the fuel pump relay located on this car? Also, is there another relay that controls the spark? I was able to get it to run for brief moments by priming the intake manifold with gas, but now it wont even do that. I replaced the fuel pump and lines to no avail. I checked the ignition switch but can't find any obvious problems with it. What could be wrong?

Do you have the K-jet system? has it been sitting for awhile? if K-jet sits for any extendend period of time you will probably need to clean out the whole fuel system (lines, filter, tank and definately the distributer and injectors). from what i've gathered the mechanical injectors are easily fouled and not easily cleaned. How long have you had the car?

also the relay is by the battery on the driver side of the frame if you haven't already figured it out.

do you hear fuel pump run for 2-3 seconds when key is first switched on w/o cranking engine?
The old style fuses have such high problem rate with corrosion, check those thoroughly.
