1995 850 odometer gear replaced, now recording in Kilometers not Miles.
SO, I replaced my odometer gear and now my cluster records the mileage in KM not miles.
I reset the mechanical odometer and the digital trip meter at the same time and the ratio is exactly 1.6096 : 1.
I`ve read post:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=34136
The car was delivered domestically as a us spec car. When I bought the car the odometer was broken and the mileage reading from A-7 was consistent with what the previous owner said about when the odometer stopped working, the previous owner also gave me a complete set of records and there is no major gap in mileage and time-so I don’t think the cluster was ever replaced….
I too get 1-6-1 in response to 1-2-4 on A7.
My roommate has a 1994 850 t-5 auto with all the same options as mine-except he has TRACS…
He gets 1-1-4 in response to 1-2-4 on A7
Can anyone tell me more about DTM 6? In the above post? Any ideas on how to reprogram A-7 so I can get response 1-1-4?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Eric

I have the factory training manual for the instrument cluster but it is in the city and I am at my cabin until late tomorrow. As I recall it is vague on resetting from km to miles but I need to revisit the manual. If you don't get an answer from someone else or hear from me by tomorrow evening bump the thread to remind me.

Sorry about that - I was delayed with my broadband upgrade at the cabin.
From the factory service manual Mode 5 (1-2-4) will read the current setting of the cluster and in Mode 6 (1-2-4) you can reset it to the proper geographical region. As I did remember, they don't give the codes that are specific to a region in the training manual.
I would go read them out of my '94 which works correctly for MPH but it is pouring down rain at the moment.
If your weather is better try reading the code via Mode 5 from the properly working cluster and then enter that same code in via Mode 6. This is all done via port A-7.
Mode 5 (5 pushes of the button) will read the current codes and Mode 6 (6 pushes of the button) will allow for the settings to be altered after the LED comes on steady. Wait for a confirmation signal from the code that you just altered before entering the next code if there is more than 1 digit.
Please post back anything that you read and enter and the results so that we can nail this down - it has come up before.

I think I must be doing something wrong....
Here is what I am doing, I have tried several times over the past two days, and cannot seem to make the program work.
1.Key position II
2.Connect port A-7
3.Press button 6x (generally I do not get a confirmation blink)
4.Press 1-2-4. (mode?), usually I get confirmation after pressing "1" and a steady light after "4", it seems like sometimes no amount of waiting will get a blink after pressing "2"
5.Enter 1-1-4.(region code?) Usually I do not get a blink after the second "1" but in one instance I got a confirmation blink after each number.
But after a test drive through the neighborhoods the odometer is still reading in KM.
I have never programmed any values in my computer, I have just read codes...
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Wrong region code? Should I be getting a confirmation blink after the 6th button press on A-7?
UPDATE.
I just found part of a servive manual on
line.... it says 1-6-1 is an error code for the cluster (makes sense, my service light flashes non stop), and what I was trying to program in, 1-1-4 is another error that my roomates car has....
so now we just need to figure out what the proper value to program in is.....

I just went out and read my cluster via Mode 5 (code 1-2-4) and it indeed did spit back 1-1-4 which is working for my car in miles.
From the service manual it appears that you need to get to Mode 6 by first going through Mode 5.
Here is the Mode 6 portion of the training manual.
Since mine is working just fine I did not attempt to get to mode 6.

FIXED IT!
I was not holding the button down for 5 seconds after the confirmation, therefore the program was not "sticking"

You were right Lee, this has been brought up before
Many, many thanks for you help

Did it turn off your flashing service engine light as well? That has come up a few times and the standard suggestion is to take the lamp out and stomp on it so long as the rest of the cluster is still working.
