I've checked the forums a fair bit and it looks like most of the discussion here focuses on the friendly 2 bolt version of volvo control arms, I have the nasty four bolt type and I'm in the process of swapping some front end parts out, including both control arms.

So here are the issues I'm facing.

Getting to the bolts. Passenger was easier, but couldn't remove all. Now I read that the motor mounts should be loosened and the engine jacked. Is this the only option or can I reuse the bolts that can't be completely removed?

Torque Specs. Does anyone have or know where I can find the torque specs on the control arms and tie rods?

Putting them in. Do I just pop up in place or is there a special process? I've seen a youtube video and the mechanic simply popped them in on the lift and torqued them up. Others have mentioned lowering the car to ride height. So I'm a little more confused than usual.

Thanks for the help....

Mike

Engine raised?
Good GOD no.
Just unbolt them and replace them
They may be frozen on but there's no real trick to this and I've always used the old bolts.
I don't think I ever bought new control arm bolts and you can tighten them jacked up (or on a lift)!

The problem is the engine is in the way of removing three of the 8 bolts...as it stands I'd have to use a box wrench and cheater bar to loosen these. I was thinking I could loosen the R side lower mount and jack it up an inch to give clearance.

I just replaced mine , rhs was easy, lhs was a bit tricky but got at all the bolts with offset 17mm box wrench, cleaned them up real good dried them off and used medium strength loctite ,I refuse to RAISE MY MILL for a few bolts that looked like new to begin with, the only real problem was the bushings were not dead on flush to the bolts, so i put the balljoint in loose and then used a c clamp to flush the bushing bolt holes flush to the frame, after that I just used caution starting the threads on all four bolts...tightened them, don't remember the torque specs but I can look in my vida software if you need em....then I installed the pinchbolt for the ball joint...remember to make sure you can see the top of the balljoint stud before you tighten down the pinchbolt
