'04 V40, strange heater/AC fan problem

Post by gbeauvin »

Hello! I'm experiencing a strange problem with my V40, and was hoping y'all could steer me in the right direction. I'm just starting to learn how to do my own car maintenance (on our 2000 S40, which has lots of problems), so bear with me please :).

On our '04 wagon, I get 3 different behaviors from the climate-control fan. Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes it won't blow at all. Other times, "off" is off, but any other fan setting blows full blast. The first and last condition are workable, but when it's raining, and there's no fan blowing... no defogger. That's a problem! I just downloaded the wiring diagram, and looked at the climate control page but I'm having a little trouble following it. I have a friend at work that knows cars, but not specifically volvos so I thought I'd check to see if this is a common thing?

thanks!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

This is a fairly common problem with the S/V40 and is usually a failing resistor pack in the heater. It is easy to replace the resistor and they are not very expensive. At the top of the forum we have sponsors who specialize in Volvo parts. Their ads are links to their sites. For new parts avoid Erie Vo-Vo as they specialize in used parts.

Look at this link for more information on how to repair it.
