When I arm the alarm system on my '04 V70 by locking it (with the fob), the horn beep is way too loud (as in, I have to make sure no one is standing in front of the car, because it will cause pain to ears). Does anyone know how to lower the volume, or just disable the horn chirp completely?
I don't know if this is related, but I have a message on the display saying "Alarm System Service Required." The sunroof also doesn't work at all (I have read a little online about the alarm and sunroof problems being related).
Any help is appreciated.

Something is wrong as the siren is not supposed to make any noise on Volvo alarms when you turn alarm on or off, only light flash on lock and if you have the setting downloaded, flash on unlock.

It sure sounds like you have the dying-battery-in-the-siren-module problem. It just happened to my '04 S60. Volvo designed a sealed module with a battery destined to wear out, and carefully positioned the battery directly over the circuit card (not under it; that wouldn't work) so that when it leaked, it would corrode the circuitry which deals with the siren and sunroof. FCPGroton: I haven't checked the regular horn volume. I will have to do that. However, I had already called the dealer about ajusting the volume of the alarm and they said they couldn't do it.
jimmy57: That's interesting. It seems like I have seen other Volvo's and their sirens have beeped on lock and unlock. But maybe I am not remembering correctly. You said something about downloading a setting. Maybe there is a way that I can "download a setting" to just turn the alarm beep off completely. Do you happen to have a link giving instructions for how to change settings?
skeeter123: Thanks, I had run across that link before. But I didn't see anything on there about this problem making the alarm beep too loud, so I wasn't sure if it were related. It looks like a difficult set of steps (I am not mechanically inclined, at least not enough to drill holes in my car - I'd probably end up drilling a wire and ruining everything), and since I'm not sure that's even the problem, I'm even more hesitant. It also looks like it would be expensive to have a mechanic do that work. And from the other posts on that page, it looks like I'd have to take it to the dealer anyway to have them "configure" the new module, and they'd probably charge some ridiculous amount for that. But, if that's my only option I might have to go with it.
Thanks for the responses.
