Non-Automobile Talk sub-forum

Post by matthew1 »

Prompted by a recent event and the generally tolerant, polite attitude of MVS members, I'm opening a new sub forum called Non-Automobile Talk.

It's where we can talk about movies, science, music, computers and whatever else comes to mind that doesn't also involve cars, religion, war or politics. To be able to see and post inside the new Non-Automobile Talk forum, your account must be in the Non-Automobile Talk group.

To ask me to be included in this group, reply to this topic.

Why the joining fuss? Because allowing off-topic banter is often a slippery slope to hurt feelings. When feelings get hurt on a forum, guess who the hurt-feelings user comes to? Yes, me, the administrator, or our moderation team.

There is a risk of having an argument spill out of Non-Automobile Talk and into the rest of the forums. With this "formal" acceptance of the few rules, I think most problems will be avoided. Still, I suspect someone, somewhere will test the rules. First offense is a permanent removal from the group. Pretty simple.

To be included in the Non-Automobile Talk group -- and thus have normal access to it -- simply reply to this topic saying you want in. By doing so you are agreeing to the terms above.

It does not sound like you are asking for much, just a little respect to fellow members on the board. Makes sense to me so would you mind adding my to the group?

I see it's there. Count me in, even though I will probably avoid it.

I have to ask, why would you avoid it? Sounds like it would be another great place to chat.

Right.... now.

Everybody in this topic has been added to the inelegantly named "Non-Automobile Talk" group and thus have normal access to that forum, when logged in of course. Everybody else can see the name of the forum in the list, but not see inside the forum and naturally cannot post in it.
