S60 starts, but shuts down after a few secons

We are a new Volvo owner family. My son's 2003 s60 will start and run, but shuts down after a few seconds. Possible fuel filter problem? What could cause this?

Does it idle any? How does it act when it's running? Do you have any messages or a CEL?
I want it due to the shear inability to continue life without it!!
