2008 S60, smells hot

Post by LBHoffer »

My S60 has begun to smell hot after driving...the water temp gauge is fine...I've checked antifreeze levels, oil levels, and tranny fluid levels all are ok....sprayed out the engine compartment thinking there might be dust grass or what not in there causing the smell, also replaced air filter and checked air intake all look fine...after all this its still smelling hot, any ideas?

Bring it in to Volvo - Isn't your car still under warranty??

You may want to call Volvo. A failed pressure cap can let the motor get too hot. I would get it to Volvo right away - especially if under warranty

I have no idea if its under warranty, i doubt it since i have over 100k, plus i live a couple hours from the nearest dealer. I was planning on taking it to the dealer but thought maybe there was something else I might be able to check out on my own.

Has it been put on a lift to see if there is any oil leaking? A small oil leak that gets onto exhaust will give you the "Hot" smell every time you exit car after it has run. It could be as simple as oil filler cap seal leaking. A small transmission line leak can do the same thing. is it burnt oil "hot" smell or the sweeter very distinct odor of coolant?

I park in a garage and haven't noticed any leaks of any kind from my car....but I will try and get in and put on a lift maybe there's some sort of leak ? who knows, but it is most definitely not a coolant leak
