Hi everyone
I bought a Volvo V70 T5 1999 with about 120000miles on the clock and the engine is making a nasty knocking/ticking noise. It sounds a lot louder and more "broken" in real life than it does in the video.
Does anyone have any ideas? Would it be a good DIY job?
Thanks

That sounds like my Saab did when it threw a rod.

It is easier to pull injector leads off one at a time and does the same test by killing the cylinder. Sounds like bled down tappet to me. the pitch is not deep like rod, but it is a recording.
IS the noise louder if you punch throttle?
Oil light is off at idle after it runs for a few minutes?
When you remove oil filler cap is there a heavy amount of sludge on the grate (or does it have open oil fill where you can see cams?).
The sound on the recording sounds just like my 98 engine sounded that had 3200 miles on it but sat without running for almost 13 years. I was close to taking cylinder head top off to replace tappets when it finally filled the tappet and noise quit. I high idled it (1500 rpm) for 30 mnutes before it quieted down.
Was it parked for a long time?
What do you know about the car's past?

That's how my 97 855 glt sounds almost exactly, i beleieve it's rod knock but some people have told me it's a collapsed lifter here is a video of mine revving some
I am having this problem with my 2003 v70 t5 (replacement engine supposedly on 105k but very questionable) very loud knocking absolutely Identical noise to the video above.
Did anyone come up with a diagnosis. From listening to the engine, my mechanic believes it to be bottom end. I'm just hoping its a hydraulic lifter or anything but bottom end!
