Is it possible to disconnect a/c

Post by Lukegibbs »

Can anyone help, my a/c compressor is cutting in and off all the time as I have been told by garage it has a leak, is it possible to disconnect a/c so compressor stops and will it cause any long term damage?

Yes it is, I had the same problem with mine. (compressor had bad clutch) All I did was take a piece of string and wrap around all the pulleys (just as the belt is now) except the ac pulley. Subtract 1 inch from your measurement and go buy a new belt in that size. Heck, mine has been like that for a year now and it's all good.

Have you tried recharging the system to see how long it will hold a charge? Most of us have had to do this at some point; there's no telling how long it will hold - sometimes weeks, sometimes all summer, but you can pick up a can of R-134a at any auto parts store.

Just unplug the compressor.

There is an electrical plug at the compressor. Take it off

Personally I can't live without AC here in TN. Most cars just need to be recharged which can be done in your garage for about $20
