To the Dealer or Not?

Post by randal »

2002, XC70, AWD, 2.4L, 191,000 miles

I'm going to replace these front springs/struts. The dealer says I've got to come in and get a number off of the engine. But when I order these from a parts store (fcpgroton) they did not ask me for a number from the engine.

Is it necessary to do what the dealer says? Is it safe to just order from a parts store?

Thank you,

There's no reason to go to a dealer unless it's warranty work, IMO.

the only thing they would look at is the Number plate stamped on the inside of the fender, some car's have sport struts which cost more, and then there is always the chance that the dealer just wants $ to tell you something that you didnt even need to know

None of you are correct
The reason Volvo said to come in is they CANNOT just order springs for a 2002.
Their system is set in such a way as they need to order by the suspension code, there is no provision to order
"front springs for an 02"
You will be fine if you order from groton, if you want to make sure, go to Volvo, or call them, give them your chassis code.
On the VIN plate, inside the left fender, bottom row of numbers
