Hi,
I replaced the left control arm on my 98 V70 yesterday and the repair was uneventful. I properly lifted the wheel before torquing down the frame bolts and tightened everything to spec. I drove it shortly last night and everything seemed fine. I just drove for a couple of miles this morning, and now there's a rather loud knocking noise when I lift off the gas pedal. The frequency is consistent with speed: as the cars slows, so does the sound. It goes away when I accelerate and goes away when I apply the brakes. I won't be able to get the car in the air until later today, but I took a quick look and didn't notice anything out of order.
Any ideas where to start? Axle? Tie rod?
front end knocking noise on deceleration

That sounds like the wheel hub bearing.
Go back and re-tighten all your lug nuts now that the car is sitting on the ground. Common mistake.

Oh crap! That's it! I feel like an idiot. I was in a hurry because it was getting dark and I didn't fully torque down the lug bolts after getting the car off the jack stands. Thank you! The quote in your signature is perfect for this situation.
