Interesting switches. The switch outputs a coded signal and the climate system puts the request on network, i.e., a rear seat heater switch has rear seat heat insignia and outputs a code recognized as rear seat heat. Of course, you have to have the hardware and have added the software for the appropriate module to activate the power to the device.

I added a smart button from my Escort radar. I cut out and installed the button. Perfect spot.
I was just thinking the other day that one of those blank buttons could be used for a female 3.5mm stereo mini plug (if the stock stereo supports aux input) so that I could plug my ipod in? Can anyone verify?

It can be done, but how would you integrate it with the radio?
That is the million dollar question, how to integrate. One would hope that it would be as simple as plugging in 3.5mm plug (or RCA to 3.5mm adapter) into a jack like most aftermarket stereo's allow. But that would be hoping for too much. Instead Volvo gives us a head unit that needs extra aftermarket hardware ($$$) to achieve such a goal. However given the age of the unit, Ipod's and mp3 players barely existed so they could hardly plan for it.
