Help, lost one, bought one, need programming.

Dealer only No software required on a 98, so it's a 5 minute job, however.......
I sure hope you bought the right one (and not an Ebay deal) sealed in the Volvo packet that has the numbers.
If not, you're probably SOL

You mess with too many cars, Jim. A '98-'00 is pretty simple.
No numbers needed and an eBay unit will do.
(As long as it still works!

You know damn well that a 99-2000 needs SOFTWARE and the blank is not the same as a 98

I was not making any reference to the key.
OP is looking for a remote only, as I read it.
I agree that the key for a '99-'00 is a spendy bit of fun.

The 98's need the PIN plus Volvo Scan Tool to program in. If there is an aftermarket scan tool that does it I do not know of it other than the VST purchased through its maker as Autodiagnos. Some indy shops
use that tool.
99 -2000 S and V and the 99-2004 C need VIDA. The PIN is handled through a software download and programming is done once the software PIN is obtained.
Keys on 99 and later ALL have to be programmed using VIDA. Some 98's in Canada had immobilizer and keys have to be VST plus PIN programmed on those.
Remotes on 99 and later P1, P2, P3 all require new GENUINE remotes so that you have the programming alphanumeric code strings plus VIDA.
There is no cycle key X times, press buttons shortcut on the VGLA 800 platform cars.

98 V-70 Guess I am a little late learning on this one having bought two on ebay and finding out I can't reprogram them. Actually I only needed the cases so I am not too bad off, But they were rather expensive cases!!!

To jimmy57 or anyone else that can help ?
I have a 2000 Volvo V70 SE non- turbo. I purchased an oem uncut/ unprogrammed key from Tasca Auto parts. I am bringing the key to a volvo dealer to have it cut and programmed. I have read in a few different places that the 2000 V70 that has a flashing security light on the dash "does not" have to be programmed by the dealer and that I can program or link it to the key myself?

If anyone knows for certain whether it can or cannot be done by me, please let me know.

I already have the original key and 9166200 remote keyless entry, but I wanted to have a backup.
