disadvantages of ecu reprogramming?

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. disadvantages of ecu reprogramming?

what are some of the disadvantages of ecu programming? im a newbie to such things..i have an 01 t5 v70 manual and i'm thinking about a dp and exhaust, but people are telling me i need to reprogram the ecu in order to not strain out the turbo...??

Koff just doing a dp and exhaust wont hurt anything. Actually it'll let the Turbo breathe easier. As far as a ecu tune that's something you want to do if you up the boost. You'll need more fuel and such and a good tune will do that for ya.

so installing a downpipe to make the turbo spool quicker won't hurt the engine or the turbo's life span? I have heard of engine rods bending because of this...?

High torque at low RPM bends rods.

A freer flowing exhaust means lower pressure behind the turbine, which means the turbine produces more torque - thus it spools up faster. Point being, it does create an engine capable of destroying itself if you mash it too hard too early. This is why they never sold a light pressure turbo with a 5-speed.

I haven't done this kind of tuning, but if I were shortening spool-up time on a 5-speed, I'd want the ECU reprogrammed to limit low-RPM torque, as well as to get the most out of it at higher RPM. On an automatic, it shouldn't be such a big deal.

maybe i should just stick with an exhaust and forget about a downpipe then

I went with IPD ECU tune and I could be happier the car transformed and I have been running it for about 10,000 miles and I pulls just like the day I put it in no errors code nothing just pure power. That was my ripest upgrade and I have many more mods but still run stock exhaust just took out the cat and ran a straight pipe
