Steering, suspension help - Volvo 240

Hello,

I have a 1993 Volvo 240. I recently had it looked over by a Volvo mechanic who gave me a laundry list of things that need fixing.

The most intimidating to me is the rack and pinion, and steering knuckle, as I've never worked on the steering/suspension before but have done a lot of other repair on the car. Are these difficult to replace? The repair prices quoted made me gulp, so I'm wondering if I should put in the work.

Andy,
You can do it. They are not easy and not hard. Somewhere in the between. Get ready to get greasy as it is mess down there. With some grit , a set of clothes you can throw away and some mechanical ability you can easily do these on a 240.

Congrats on getting a 93

Buy the Haynes and Bentley manuals and they will lead you through it.

Hi,

I started looking for a used rack & pinion to replace the one in my '93 240 sedan and may have found something that will work. Could anybody tell me if a rack and pinion in a 1992 Volvo 240 wagon is the same as that in the '93 240 sedan?

Otherwise, does anybody have any advice on where to get one?

The steering gear on the 240 is the same for all models 1991 - 1993.
