passenger door wont 't open from the outside

1998 S70 GLT with 213K on the clock
The front pass. door lock stopped working .The door can be opened by using the inside release handle only .The outside handle moves through it's normal range ,but nothing happens .I removed the interior door panel to get a view/access to the door lock /handle operation .The outside door handle operates a small lever which swings towards the door lock ,but does not appear to contact it in any way ,what am I missing ?I tried to remove the lock by removing the 2 torx screws next to the striker opening ,but it feels like it's still attached somewhere .I don't want to force it ,but it feel like the lock is attached to the handle,but I don't see it .Any suggestions?
