'98 S70 throttle cable

Post by smithy850 »

I am getting ready to swap out the throttle cable on my S70. Has anyone done this? Is it pretty straightforward? I'm assuming it is; I just want to avoid any pitfalls that may be lurking. Thank you.

You are not changing out because it "sticks" when you first push the gas pedal down are you by any chance? Mine has done that since I've owned it on and off ('94 850 n/a bought used in '98 )

We hope you're not changing it because it sticks when the accelerator is initally pressed on, because that's just caused by the throttle body needing a thorough cleaning.

My wife originally noticed that the gas pedal was sticking badly and there is a lot of resistance. The throttle body was cleaned at the dealership but the resistance is still there. They recomended that I replace the cable and I'm hesistant. I've "lubed" the one on my 850 for a similar problem and it worked fine. One thing that is strange about this is where the cable goes through the firewall, it is lose. The clip that secures it is broken and it flops around a little. I'm not sure if that is part of the cable itself or a different part all together. I also don't recall it being that way before. Hopefully they didn't break it while "inspecting" the problem, or they will be replacing for me. I definitely don't want to have to do this, but it does worry me.
