My new ride hesitates upon acceleration at low speeds and I can smell fuel outside of car while running (more towards rear, I guess). Recall on fuel pump has been done. For what it's worth, there is no fuel damper on the fuel rail. My Haynes book shows one but I only have a blue-green disconnect, no damper. I originally thought the odor may be the fuel damper since it is run off the vacuum system. I changed the gas cap. The CEL is not on and, thus, no codes. Are the problems unrelated? I would appreciate if anyone has any ideas. Thanks.

fuel damper became a flattened hollow tube with gas inside to dampen fuel pulses on the entire length of manifold.
How many miles?
MAF sensor could be an issue.
The fuel leak should be checked into, not for hesitation reasons, just for safety.
Fuel pressure check would be a good idea too.

It has 84K. I don't think it is a fuel leak per se. My mind is stuck on emissions/vacuum. I originally thought it was from "jacking" the tank but that's not it. Can I test the fuel pressure at the end of the fuel rail on that schrader valve? Thanks for the tip on the fuel damper. That was bothering me. Will check into MAF. Fuel smell only when windows are down. Thanks.

If your smelling raw fuel you need to take it back to the dealer asap. It is most likely due to faulty work done at fuel pump recall. SSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUXXXXXXXXXX!

Turns out thatthe Dealer never replaced the fuel pump, although the service dude told me they had "performed the recall" and that it was covered. Actually they just inspected it and determined that the fuel pump was not the one of four made for this model that was covered in the recall (total B. S.). So, they let me drive away leaking fuel and unwittingly believing that they had replaced the fuel pump. The service dude said they "fixed" it. I was at my wits end trying to figure out what could be causing the raw fuel smell and it turns out they never replaced the fuel pump. I eventually called the service manager and relayed my concerns and he revealed to me the truth. They fixed it at no charge. His said that my fuel pump wan't actually covered by the recall but that they would try to "slide" it through (again, total B. S.). I don't know what is worse: letting me drive away with a potentially dangerous malfunctioning fuel pump or straight out lying to me that it was fixed. At least the service manager owned it. The service dude is a d-bag.

My "new" fuel pump seems to be just fine but a new problem has surfaced. My fuel guage works only intermittently. I suspect the sending unit is faulty. Is a sending unit part of a new fuel pump assembly? Could it be programming or a loose ground wire or something? I just can't seem to put this to bed.
