02 t6 transmission symptoms to look for
02 t6 transmission symptoms to look for
02 s80t6 91K miles (probably 70K on used transmission installed before I bought it). Runs great, any symptoms I should look for regarding the transmission. also, any advice to give my daughter (who will be the main driver, she does not have a lead foot) on how to keep the turbo from killing the tranny. Great forum thanks

No; that will only kill it faster. Same reason all the 01 V70/S60 transmissions have died.
Check the fluid - wipe it on a white paper towel and check the color, maybe do a flush if it looks like it needs it. Aside from that, there's really no tell-tale symptoms unless it shifts hard or seems to slip.

jblackburn: Are you saying that shifting into neutral at lights just makes the valves cycle more than necessary or ?????? i.e. what causes teh 01 V70/S60 trannies to fail?Same reason all the 01 V70/S60 transmissions have died.

Yes, you're just shifting parts of the transmission around that only last so many cycles. The AW trannies in the 2001's shifted into neutral every time you come to a stop, and then re-engage when you step on the gas again. The idea was to save a little bit of gas and help the clutch packs last longer, but that wasn't what happened. After about 100,000 miles of doing that (some earlier), solenoids and valve bodies began to fail and the transmissions began dropping like flies.
The GM transmissions just suck because there's so much torque from the T6 engine being put through a poorly-designed transmission. Late-90's American transmission designs were never very good. They were designed for their own cars (Chevy Impala, Pontiac Grand Prix, etc) with much less powerful V6 engines, and it was a poor choice by Volvo to mate them with the T6 engine.
