I just bought a 1989 240 DL sedan. It has a problem of not starting due to gas on the spark plugs. The only way to get it to start is to pull the plugs out and clean them, but when it does start, it emits smoke. I have smelt this smoke and it smells of unburnt gas. I have not worked on a volvo before and need to know which of the sensors could be bad to make the cylinders flood and make the mixture too rich.
Hope someone can help me with this.

I would check the fuel pressure regulator.
