01 V70 2.4T Oil Leak since spark plug change?

Post by brandonbeach14 »

I changed the plugs on my V70 yesterday and I noticed what might be a leak on the pass. side side this morning. It looks like it's coming on the back side of the engine and dripping a small amount on suspension under the CV joint. Maybe over tightened the plugs? There was just a little oil on the #4 plug when I removed it, but that was it. In the last week I have also did a Seafoam treatment to the intake, Amsoil to the engine, changed the oil with Penzoil Plat. It wasn't leaking oil prior and the oil was changed on Thursday. There wasn't any pooling of oil under the top cover or on the front side of the engine. It also isn't using an oil. Any ideas? :?: Thanks

When was the last pcv service done? You might have moved around some sludge buildup in the system with the seafoam treatment and now it is clogged. If it is on the passenger side leaking onto the cv joint (I bet also onto the motor mount also) then you might have a leak comig from the cam and crank seals on that side. Pull the timing cover back and inspect in that area for the leak.

After tracing the leak back up the engine and after taking the cover over the plugs off it appears to be leaking at the oil filler neck or cap. The entire area was filled with oil and was running down the back of both sides of the engine. I have already ordered a new cap, but can the neck leak too? Thanks

It's advisable to change that oil cap seal with each oil change.

Will do thanks, Ever see a leak at the base of the neck? I figure it's most likely collecting there from above where the cap is, but I am covering all my bases.

You should replace the filler cap gasket with IPD's HD gasket. I don't know why but for some reason these cars like to leak oil from the filler neck. I wouldn't think that you would have a leak at the base of the neck though.
