rear cam seal "fell" right out?

After finally finding my oil leak on my 96 850 N/A, I went to replace the rear cam seal. After removing the cps and the plate behind it, before I even touched it, I noticed that the seal was not even close to flush or recessed in its place, but was almost completely out? I barely touched it with my finger, and I was able to pluck it right out without using any tool? I have to assume this would cause my leak...lol. Is it possible that I can just press this seal back in? it feels like it will go in tight( I didn't want to push it back in too hard for fear of having a difficult time removing it again. From what I have read, this is not normal, most people describe prying it out. Any input will be appreciated, thanks

You will have to use a new seal. The seals get hard and can shrink with age and then a faint amount of crank pressure will push it out. If it fell out once it will most likely fall out again.

good point, seeing how easy it is to get to, there is no point in screwing around with it. Thanks for the input

I agree. Even if the seal did not get hard, it would be dumb to put the old seal back in. New seals a cheap so just pick up a new one and pop it in.

Any chance you can sight a brand name on that seal??
