Remote control for 02 S60
Remote control for 02 S60
Was curious if anyone can tell me how much a remote costs from a dealership and the fee to program it? I bought one off of ebay the other month and when I went to the dealership, they needed a number that went along with it that I didn't have.

Check around with sites like some of this site's sponsors. One sells it for $82.00. Only new remotes have the PIN code--and the P2 cars need PIN codes (weirdly, the older P80s don't, and the newer P3s don't either). Depending on the dealership, fee for programming is around $100-150.Syrix wrote:Was curious if anyone can tell me how much a remote costs from a dealership and the fee to program it? Bought mine from Volvo of Dallas website for $81.66 around December of last year (2101).Syrix wrote:Was curious if anyone can tell me how much a remote costs from a dealership and the fee to program it? [ http://www.volvowholesaleparts.com ] I went that route because Volvo uses VIN# to insure it is the correct part.
The programming cost was $88.00(programming) + $30.51(labor). There is a person seeing '01-'03 s60 fobs on eBay for $59.92 and the part number is correct for '01-'03 (8685150). [ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VOLVO-KE ... ccessories ]

That eBay seller states that they don't have the codes for the remote. Whatever remote you buy, if it is not from a dealer/genuine Volvo parts place, it must have the PIN code for programming. I've personally done fob programming through VIDA on a 2002 XC70 and VIDA needs the PIN. The older cars have you press the lock and unlock buttons during programming when VIDA prompts you, and on the newer ones VIDA has you put the combined remote/key in the SCU (key slot) for programming, those cars with separate remotes or KIRs (basically all P2 cars and P1 cars until 2008 or so) require the PIN for the remotes.

no. You need a remote with a code string that is entered through VIDA after remote programming software is purchased and loaded. If they made it easy then it would be easy for a thief to program a remote to get into your car. Maybe car theives have figured out the coding and can get an Ebay used one to work....

Software is 50-60 bucks PLUS install
Most dealers charge one hour labor for the 15 minutes of work to program it
(some less, but not many)
