What seals the headlight?

I purchased a used '97 940 sedan. One of the headlight lens' was cracked. I have found a replaceable lens, however there is some kind of seal to attach the lens to the inner reflector. Dismantling a headlight mount is not easy and requires the removal of extraneous stuff. My question is: What is the sealant used, so that I can replace the lens? The sealant is to keep moisture out of the headlight electrical hook ups. Are there any used lens out there for a "97 940 sedan that isn't already sun/light damaged? The damage from the light makes the light not be a bright as it should be for night driving. I prefer to do my own work if it can save me some money, I am not afraid.

Are you sure you have a '97 940? Here in the UK the 940 was produced until 1998 but was only available in the US up to 1995.

I stand corrected, it's a '94 940 Volvo sedan.

'Tis a good job you weren't trying to sell it - three years younger indeed!!

I am having difficulty finding a listing for a headlight with a replaceable lens in the US. Every listing I have shows they come as a complete unit. For UK models the glass is replaceable and there is a gasket, part #1392734. I have run that number through two of our sponsors' websites and it isn't found.

You can replace the gasket with silicone sealant.
