Passenger door open message onV70

Post by stephenc »

Would anyone be able to enlighten me as to my options regarding an intermittent fault with the passenger door of my 2003 V70 d5.The door is closed but the message appears PASSENGER DOOR OPEN and the interior light stays on The message is accompanied by the red warning triangle on the dash and when I try to lock the car when parked it wont lock.Sometimes I can Close the door and all is well but 90 times out of a hundred its not.Is there a sensor that is out of whack or is a new lock my only option? any advice will be welcomed

Steve

LIBERALLY spray the latch opening on rear edge of door with a penetrating oil. Spray upwards and inwards and any direction you can get spray to enter. THen open and close the door a few times to see if this has worked. Often times it is effective for this problem.

occasionally the wires have come off of the sensor, usually you can hear a wire bouncing around in the door, you can on mine, go with the penetrating oil first by a long shot, doors take awhile.
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

Hi, just found this forum and I'm having this exact trouble with my V70. Just wondering if spraying into the latch did the trick? Thanks.

Typically caused by microswitch in the door latch/lock module. Solution is to replace with known good used one or new one. There are two switches (door opened/lclose and door locked/unlocked) that are internal to the sealed door module so you can get to them to clean them. Also could be the door wiring in the hinge area but less probable cause.
