83 240 starts and runs, but dies in gear

83 240 starts and runs, but dies in gear

My son's 83 240 wagon will start and run in neutral, but when he shifts into first gear and tries to pull away the engine revs drop and the motor tries to stall. He has added fuel to the tank (but not filled it) and a bottle of injector cleaner but the symptoms are the same. What next? I suspect a fuel supply problem.

Have you checked the MAF sensor?
