My jack is missing....

Post by tboothe33 »

Got a flat tire yesterday and found out the jack is missing in my XC70. The year is 99 V70-XC. Does anyone know where I can get just the jack? I see Erie had a spare tire/jack on e-bay but I only need the jack part. The spare tire is there. Tried using the jack from my daughter's Honda CRV but it started to bend - guess my Volvo is heavier....

Thanks.

Pick n pull used car parts yards have OEM used jacks for cheap.

Any salvage yard should be able to help. http://www.car-parts.com or buy a new one from a local Volvo dealer or vendor above. Many upgrade to a stronger after market jack - the selection is endless

My jack is broken and was inadequate when new, anyway. What's a good aftermarket jack I can buy for cheap?

Look around at harbor freight if you have one; they have a good selection of floor and scissor jacks.

The Volvo one is pretty useless anyway. Once you start to get the wheels off the ground it starts to get wobbly.

Second.. The Volvo jack is pure junk. Also, second the Harbor Freight. One thing, don't bother with a bottle jack. If you have a flat the bottle jack will never fit under the car. Volvos ride pretty low.

Since the nearest Harbor Freight is 25 miles away, it'll have to wait for the sting of the new timing belt / water pump / etc. job (scheduled for Wednesday) to fade a bit. I'll pass, JRL.

Thanks so much for this place, am lurking and learning. The car is nominally my son's until he moves to the city this fall, and I haven't owned one in ten years, but I'm beginning to allow myself to love it a little; just this week finally gave it the thorough detailing that means we could be friends. You all are helping me realize that this purchase I encouraged him to make should work out ok, as long as we do what's needed. The thing was all original including the battery.

If you're OK with cheap chinese junk as a jack (would have to pay me a hefty amount to put enough trust in anything cheap and from China to save my bacon in the middle of nowhere), then you don't need HF for that. Just check the stores of your local Walmart, or auto parts store.

+1. $25 will get you a reasonable piece of hydraulic floor jack chinese junk at Walmart.

The casters will probably flatten themselves on the first use, but it will lift up the car when you need it to. I've had the same one for years and it's seen plenty of use across four or five different cars.
