I didnt drain any from the bottom of the car let it all cycle through the top hose as i refilled the car and stopped and started it to catch up. all in all i used all of my 14quarts and stopped when the fluid was bright red (new fluids color)

how can i tell whether i have the transmission that takes dextron iii, or the one that takes 3309? my s70 is a 1999, so it should take dextron iii, however, the connection at the radiator has the little green clips, which i understand should only be on the cars that take 3309.

is there a way to tell for sure?

I have a 99 v70 t5. I have the newer green press type clip that holds the transmission hose to the radiator.

Which hose do I use to flush the fluid out? Is it also the driver side top, or is it a different one.

my manual says: dexron IIE/III Mercon.
there are a couple on the shelf that say for use in cars over 75k.

went valve-max-life. doing the "drain & fill" in installations.
fluid was like mud. looked like old motor oil. seems to be shifting smoother. was having some major erratic downshifts at strange times...felt like the whole engine was sliding out...but now does a little erratic stuff around 2k rpms occasionally. looking forward to seeing the effect of the full change over the next couple week. insane that the mech wanted $300 to do this.
blinking arrow is still blinking..and my "econo/weather" e & w lights are still switching back and forth. will this eventually subside or is it another issue?
thanks

Excellent thread. When you open the drain plug does the tranny oil fly out, asit does in the engine oil drain?

This is one of the most beneficial maintenance items I could have done! All is Right with the world, smooth as can be.
The directions are as clear as can be, and got my 9 year old daughter involvo'd in the project. She now has been bitten by the Bug!!
Once again, thanks for all the help.
Follow this method you will be pleasantly surprised at the ease and results.

I did just a drain and fill last night for the first time since I bought the car - I'm too wary to do the full flush with 160k and a somewhat unknown history. The good news is that the gallon I got out was brown, but there was definitely still a pink hue to it and it didn't smell any worse than the new stuff, so I suspect my mechanic must have changed it when I bought it from him several years ago. I think I'll do another drain and fill in a week or two, and then maybe do a full flush somewhere down the road if all goes well.

My transmission seems to be in decent shape, but it is a little slow to fully engage the drive wheels when taking off from a stop. (It kind of feels like the transmission is 'winding up' slowly before full engagement). Many cars I've driven act similarly, but my co-worker just bought a '98 V70 with a new transmission, and his doesn't. I was hopeful new fluid might help. Anyone else have similar symptoms, and if so, did the flush help?
