wet carpet on driver side?

Post by tkende06010 »

Hi all, moving on to the next issue with my 96 Volvo 850 N/A, The car has been in the garage for about 4 weeks now while I have done various repairs. The carpet in front and back on driver side mostly, is wet. I did not run the car for about 5 days, and it started to dry up so I figured it had gotten wet outside somehow, but after fixing pcv system and running the car to check it, I noticed the floor was wet again. When I rub my hand on it, it feels oily, and I suspect it may be the heater core leaking? I have not really noticed the coolant going down, but I have not driven the car at all for 2 months, so it may not have had a chance to go down noticeably? Anybody with input? i looked for a tutorial on this, but can't find anything for the 850. Thanks

Heater core for sure!

A lot of write-ups for the the S/V70 series, but I'm pretty sure the 850 is nearly identical.

thanks for the input, if I stuff my head under the dash, I can see a bit of a white plastic box, which I think the core is in.

How about for the 1995 960? My core is leaking. And the shop wants 1500.00 bucks to fix it. They say that the whole dash has to come out? And where is it on the 960?

the whole dash does have to come out, unless you want to cut apart your car to get to it. its a tricky fix, and it depends on where its leaking 850's ahve the easiest core to replace, it should be similiar on your 960. Try looking up "960 Dash Removal" in the repair database, should show something.

Common symptom of heater core failure. I have the OEM Nissens unit for it available below, is a bit tedious to replace on your model (as previously stated, dash has to come out for access). But not as bad when it comes down to the work itself, you should also check your hoses and the small o-rings leading to the coupler at the firewall. Something that is often overlooked and could cause future leaks.

I know replacing the core kinda sucks, but I hope this helps!

Don't forget to replace the o-rings too!
