XC70 Gas tank removal

1999 XC70...

Anyone ever removed the gas tank on one of these? Whats involved?

Why are you looking to remove the gas tank? If its the AWD version there is a lot involved. I had to drop the tank to get to the fuel pump but ended up cutting a hole in the floor rather than going through all that work...

Yes, its the AWD version. I have to get to the line(s) leaking on top of the tank. The leak is very bad and I cannot get to it by cutting a hole where the fuel pump lids are. I cannot pinpoint exactly where the leak is, but its coming from above the rear of the tank. It only leaks when the pump is on (engine running)...
I wish I could cut a hole on the floor to fix it, but it would have to be a big hole to cover the area where the leak is...

The entire rear end and suspension needs to drop.

Can anyone elaborate on the tank removal procedure? I'm facing having to replace the pump and can't find anything very clear... everyone just says that it's tough.

schmidm90, could you give some guidance as to where & how to make the body cuts? There are a few images here, but none that really seem to show the relative location.

Yikes.
I am in the same boat. Leak coming from the top of the tank and as of yet, I am not sure where.
BEJinFbk: I don't fancy having to remove the entire rear end (suspension, etc).
I would also like to see if anyone might have picture showing what will need to be removed to accomplish finding the leak.
If I were to consider cutting out some of the floor in the back end of the wagon, are there any wires attached to the underside that I should be looking out for?
I am driving the 1998 V70 XC AWD Turbo (wagon).
I sure hope someone might have a simpler solution

To all having this leak issue:
There are some pretty inexpensive inspection cameras out there.
Most have a 3' flexible neck, but extentions are available with most brands.
That may help finding the leaks...

I am Canadian BTW, so if you know of anywhere in Canadian stores that you might suggest, that would be greatly appreciated.
