Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
This may be a little late but I have been away for a week.
Is the cable adjusted according to spec?
You need Automatic transmission fluid type F for a manual box.
Bill.

The Swedes use a synthetic oil in that gearbox but list type F as alternate.
The first gear brake that suppresses gear lash rattle causes problems with hard gear selection and even a first gear bearing failure when ATF is used.
The synthetic oil from Volvo is not (unless it has changed) stocked in US so 5w30 synthetic motor oil can be used.
