Radio . . What am I missing?

That yellow connector looks like the factory provided accessory power
point for aftermarket electrical add-ons. Ignore it for this problem.

Start with a complete power test.
There are two fuses for the radio.
One for battery power and one for ignition.

#7 should have battery power at all times.
It feeds the Red/Black wire at the radio.
#32 should have power when the key is on.
It feeds the Yellow/Violet at the radio.

Sometimes a fuse may look OK, but actually be blown. Get the meter out.
Check for power at both of the little nibs on either end of the fuse top.
One is the "in" and the other is the "out" on the fuse. BOTH should be hot.
If you have power at one nib, but not the other, replace that fuse.

YES the radio powers on now

im getting the OFF display

is this the part whre i have to go to a volvo dealer
and they tell me the code to unlock it?

If you have a service booklet in the cubby hole, you may have the radio code listed in it to punch in. If there is no code have a look on the radio unit itself, the previous owner may have been kind enough to write it on the radio side or top.
If there is now joy there, write down the serial number of the radio and go to your local Volvo dealer(donuts in hand help) and ask them for the code. Most do not charge for the code, a few do try, as I said , donuts may help.

If you can't find it in the book or on the radio, get all the numbers off
of the radio and contact a dealer. Most will be cool enough to help.
If you have trouble with that, you can post up a request here and
should get some assistance from our friendly league of Volvo owners.

If it says OFF instead of CODE, someone already tried to unlock it.
Attempting an incorrect code more than 3 times will shut it down.
The fix is to leave the radio powered up and turned on for a while.
Most say it takes 2 hours, but others have had to wait 3 or 4.

Once it's happy, it'll say CODE and accept input.
Plug in the correct 4 digit code and Rock On!

Found the radio code in the owners handbook - 6544.
Display said code when I turned it on.
Pushed 6544, waited, displayed said rPt.
Tried two more times, didn't work, display says OFF now.

$106? That is messed up! They obviously don't want your business...
Any decent dealer would just hook you up with something that simple.
You may not have the car's original radio. Happens on old cars.
Someone probably replaced it and you have the code for the old one.

Post up the numbers.

Yea tell me about it. I might as well buy an aftermarket radio for that price.

The only numbers I found were on the top of the radio. I posted it on the first page but here goes again.

I found a dealer who said they could give me the codes over the phone, but I called too late and the service guys already left.

Since I already have the harness installing an aftermarket should be a snap, no? Just match the wires and stuff.
