Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Post by Austriacus »

I have a 2008 volvo S80. when reseting the service engine light (with the keyless procedure; press the start button, instrument panel lights up; press the trip meter reset and the start button together) I get a code of 163 and can't reset the light. any help?

thanks Christian

I think the steps might be wrong, try these from VIDA:

Key in ignition
Ignition switch position I. [Just press it]
Press and hold the trip odometer reset button.
Ignition switch position II. [Press and hold until the lamp test happens, then release]
Wait for 10 seconds.
Release the reset button when the information lamp starts to flash.

These are the steps I am taking. The car beeps and displays a 163 and the service light is still on. Anyone knows what the 163 means?

There is no data about that in VIDA I'm afraid, sorry. However, have a look at johnngkh's post (#9) here: http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s80- ... der-27165/

You may have a DTC in cluster that prevents the "easy" reset. I have had that happen a few times but not on a P3.
I have seen number codes come up in the message center before when attempting SRL reset and usually another try cures it.
The difference between accessory on and ignition on on P3 is tricky. Be sure that piece of this puzzle is not the problem.

Same problem for me. The info light flashes 5 times and I get the chime with a wrench icon and code 163. The trick for me was to release the button after 3 flashes of the light. I get no chime and no other verification that it worked, but the Service Overdue message is now cleared! I guess I'll know in 7500 when the light goes off again whether that's really the secret sauce or not.

I have V70 P3 MY 2010. I can confirm that releasing the trip reset after three flashes resets the service overdue notification!
If I keep the trip reset pressed for longer I also get the 163 code and no success in resetting the SRL. Thanks!

Hello,
I confirm that releasing the start/stop button after the third flash of “i” is solving the problem

Thank you for the tip
